ASDA are proud to be in their fifth year of title sponsorship of the National Kwik Cricket Competition. This is one of the largest grassroots competitions in the UK in any sport, involving over 130,000 10 and 11 year old girls and boys from over 12,000 primary schools from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The game is a simplified version of cricket, designed to introduce thousands of youngsters to the game every year. It offers children a fun, inclusive and social form of activity to promote healthy and active lifestyles throughout the summer.

With over 1,800 Asda Kwik Cricket festivals taking place across the UK, over 300 ASDA stores are able to attend events to hand out healthy food and drink to keep the players energised. Dedicated ASDA store community colleagues are able to interact with their local schools, kids and parents in their local communities, and help promote the core values of community and healthy living that ASDA stand for.

Throughout the five years of sponsorship, ASDA have worked hard to improve the competition and the experience of all the children who take part.

  • In 2008 a girls only competition was introduced that immediately increased the number of girls playing cricket by 98% to over 30,000.
  • ASDA sponsor over 20 cricket ambassadors to attend events each summer to create once in a lifetime memories for young players to meet their heroes and receive top tips!
  • This year, ASDA have created a brand new website to increase further engagement with the all the children, parent, teachers and coaches involved in ASDA Kwik Cricket at www.asda.com/kwikcricket, to make the whole experience richer and more exclusive.

This year the tournament was launched on the 14th June by England World Cup Winner Eoin Morgan and is now under way UK wide. This year’s event will culminate in a UK final taking place at Derby County Ground on the 14th July involving the best 16 school teams from across the UK, including the Northern Ireland and Scotland National Champions.
